William was born in 3 December 1890 in Gore, Southland, New Zeland. He was the son of John Henry Herman Gerken and Mary Ann Bryce.

Vic Gerken married:

1st Christina Ivy Cunningham (1895 - 1942) in 1911. They had one daughter.

2nd Isabel Mary (McDonald) McRae after 1942.

Death:
William George Victor (Vic) Gerken died 6 February 1976 in Gore and was buried in the Gore Cemetery, Gore, Southland, New Zealand. His second wife, Isabel was buried with him in 1979.
