Notes
NI1758According to the Whitby Family History, Phillip left Germany because he would have had to serve in the German army for 2 years. In 1854 Phillip was nailed into a barrel and put on board a ship. When they were one day out to sea, others let him out of the barrel, and he had to work his way to America because he didn't have any money to pay for the trip. Phillip immigrated to West Bend, Wisconsin, where he worked as a wagonmaker for about one year. He then moved on to Fond du Lac for a short time and on to Brothertown, Wisconsin, where he was a pioneer settler.
