1930 Still living on Bremen Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Gernitz men were employed as follows: Alex as a checker in a paper box factory; Frank as a tinsmith; John also worked in a paper box factory as a box maker; young Victor worked as a stock clerk in a dry goods store. Jennie was employed as a machine operator in a lace (?) paper factory. The household comprised:
1940 Victor, who had been living in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1935, now lived with his sister Elizabeth in Summit Town, Waukesha County, Wisconsin and served as the bartender in her tavern. 1942 Victor L. Gernitz enlisted in the US military for World War II on 20 Oct 1942 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He claimed to have had three years of high school and employment as a houseman and yardman. He was single, without dependents and enlisted for the duration of the war plus six months, subject to the discretion of the President or otherwise according to law.[6]
