Moses Gerould was born on 5 May 1801 in Stoddard, Cheshire, New Hampshire, USA, son of Samuel Gerould ( 1755-1824 ) and Asubah (Thompson) Gerould (1765 -1851 ).
Moses married Cynthia R. Locke (1804 - 1893) on 5 Feb 1829. Their children were:
"After spending four years in Kimball Union Academy, Meriden, N.H., he studied theology with Rev. Seth S. Arnold, of Alstead, N.H., and was ordained pastor of the Congregational church in New (now East) Alstead, N.H., May 22, 1828. Resigned in 1844."[1]
Moses Gerould of Alstead paid a probate bond along with his brother in laws, Samuel and Charles Locke, towards the estate of hs father-in-law Calvin Locke. [2]
He was dismissed from the Alstead church in 1844 and installed in Hinsdale, New Hampshire in October 1844. He remained there until 1853.
On 6 September 1850, Moses and "Mrs. M." and their six children- Samuel, John, Sarah, Martin, Ann, and Edward; along with Calvin S. Locke and Mary E,. Maguire lived in Hinsdale, Cheshire County, New Hampshire. Moses as a Congregational Clergyman. Son Samuel was a student and Calvin was a laborer. Moses owned $1,200 in real estate.[3]
In August 1852, Moses was chosen Moderator of the General Association of New Hampshire meeting in Pittsfield (a group of ministers).[4]
He was acting pastor at Canaan, N. H., from 1833 to 1863; and at Stoddard, N. H., taking the place of his son Samuel, absent in the army, from 1863 to 1865; then at Langdon, N. H., from 1865 til 1869.
On 21 June 1860, Moses and Cynthia L and two children Martin L. and Edward T., as well as 16-year-old Lizzie Carr lived in Canaan, Grafton County, New Hampshire. Moses was a Congregational clergyman, Martin was a student, and Lizzie was a teacher. The family owned $1,500 in real estate and $700 in personal estate.[5]
On 16 June 1870, Moses and Cynthia lived in Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire. He owned $2,000 in real estate and $1,000 in personal estate. Moses was a retired clergyman and Cynthia was keeping house.[6]
In April 1869, he retired from the active duties of the ministry, and settled in Concord, N. H.
Moses died on 21 Jun 1874 in Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire aged 73. He is buried in Old North Cemetery, Concord, Merrimack County, New Hampshire.[7]
