Mary Gerrard was born in the parish of Falkirk about 1844 and was the eldest daughter of George Gerrard and Mary Connell.[1]
On the 1851 census, Mary is living in Camelon with her parents and siblings: James (10 years), William (5 years) and Thomas (1 year).[2] On the 1861 census, Mary is working as a domestic servant in Airth.[3]
Mary married Robert Hay in Edinburgh on 2 August 1872 and they had three children. The marriage record shows Robert and Mary were both living in India Buildings, Victoria St, Edinburgh, and were married in the same place.[4][5]
Mary Gerrard died of a heart aneurism, aged 37 years, on 16 June 1881. The death record shows her usual residence as 27 Hercules Street, Edinburgh, and the death was registered by her husband Robert Hay.[1]
