John was born on 02 February 1793 and was christened 9 days later at the Congregational Independent Tabernacle Church in Hanley, Staffordshire, England, which was founded in 1784. [1] His parents were Edward and Ellen Gerrard. [2]
John married Elizabeth Walley in Hanley on 07 August 1822. [3]

Emma Gerrard, born 28 Feb 1825, chr. 01 May 1825 at the Tabernacle Independent [5]
Daniel Gerrard, born 31 May 1827, chr. 15 Jul 1827 at the Tabernacle Independent [6]
It seems that the family moved to Shelton, Staffordshire, at around this time.

Caroline Elizabeth Gerrard, born 25 Jun 1829, christened 20 Sep at Hope Independent or Congregational, Shelford, Staffordshire.
Kezia Gerrard, born 10 Apr 1832, christened 14 Jun 1833 at Hope Independent [7]
Martha Gerrard, born around 1835.
The 1851 census found the family living in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. [8]
