Born in London before 1518, by 1539 he was married to Isabel Nethermill and they had five sons plus one daughter. The Visitation of Hertfordshire lists the following children:
- Sir William Garrard of Dorney, Buckinghamshire, first son
- George Garrard, second son
- Sir John Garrard, third son
- Peter Garrard, fourth son
- Anne Garrard, later Barnes, daughter
He died on 27 Sep 1571 in London.
