Biography

Maud was born in Camden Town, London on 02 March1883. ^[1] She was the daughter of A. W. Gerrard and Mary Ann Blackmore.

In 1891, when the census was held, the family was living on Cantlowes Road, near Kentish Town in London. The household consisted of (a) Maud's parents, A W Gerrard and Mary Ann Blackmore > Flowerdew > Gerrard, (b) A W's four children from his first marriage, (c) a child of Mary Ann's from her first marriage, then (d) Maud and her two full siblings and finally (e) a servant. ^[2]

At the 1901 census Maud was living with her parents and two full siblings at 35 Queens Road, Wimbledon, her older stepbrothers and -sisters having moved out. ^[3]

When A W moved to the Midlands to devote himself to the development of Cuxson Gerrard & Co., he was accompanied by Mary Ann, Maud and her stepsister Lily. At the census of 1911 they were living in Yardley, Moseley, Warwickshire. ^[4]

As noted by her nephew S J Gerrard in his 2014 book "Gerrards of Wessex", Maud was an artist.

When Maud married, however, the ceremony took place back in Barnes Church in Surrey, close to where she had grown up. The year was 1921 and her husband was Alfred Wainwright, an engineer and builder. ^[5]

She died on 02 November 1960. The report of her death published in the London Gazette states that her home address was 4 Turketel Road, Folkestone, Kent, ^[6] though a different source suggests that she was in Ashstead, Surrey, at the time of her death.
