RALPH CHESTER GERSTUNG
Beloved father [Ralph Chester Gerstung] WW2 vet prisoner of war in Germany for 19 months. Captured near Touhlan, France; wounded 2 oct 1944 in Germany. He was the holder of the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with the U.S.Army. Ralph was a member of the American Legion Post 911 Wauconda, ILL. Ralph served with the 3rd infantry division, 2nd battalion, 30th infantry,company "f" and served under General Patton and General Eisenhower as a infantry soldier, radioman and mechanic. He spent the remainder of the war in captivity as a prisoner in Limburgh, Munich [Stalag 7A] and Muhlberg [Stalag 4B] before being set free by the Russian Army in 1945. Dad was proud that he served in the army and served his country.
