He first married circa 1828 in Gaspereau, Armenilla Martin.
He married secondly circa 1835 Sarah Ann (Miner) Smith, the widow of Manly Smith.
John Gutridge Jr., blacksmith, appears in the 1838 census of Horton Township with a family consisting of 1 male child under six years of age, 1 female child under six years of age, 1 female under fourteen years of age, 2 females above fourteen years of age, total 6 in the family including himself. John Gurtridge, blacksmith, wrote his Last Will and Testament 6 Mar 1861 in Horton, leaving bequests to his wife Mrs. Sarah Ann, sons John L., Peter M., and daughters Delight, Emmeline and Allice. The will was probated 13 Feb 1880.
In 1871, John Gurtridge, farmer, widower, 67 was residing with his son Peter in Gaspereau.
He passed away in 1880.
