Biography

Joseph was born in 1898. He is the son of Georges Gervais and Octavie Brisson.

Joseph was listed in the 1911 Census. [1]

Joseph married Mariange Mailhiot in 1922. He passed away in 1992.[2]

Obituary

Joseph Gervais passed away in his 95th year at the Haven in Redvers, Saskatchewan on Sunday, July 12, 1992.

Joseph was born in Tomahawk, Wis., U.S.A. on January 3, 1898. His parents Octavie Brisson and Georges Gervais were enroute from St. Pierre Quebec on their way to settling in the west. Their stay in Wisconsin for a few years, enabled Joe's father to earn enough money to continue to their homestead 1 1/2 miles north east of Cantal, Saskatchewan.

Joe married his first wife, Marie-Ange Mailhiot in 1921 and together they had 11 children.

Joe was an early pioneer, settling in the Cantal district. He owned his first farm just outside of Alida, where together with his brother Eugene, they purchased their first steam treshing outfit in 1920.

In 1937, Joe and his family moved to a farm 1 1/2 miles east of Wauchope. He also took a job doing road maintenance for the Dept. of Highways, he retired in 1962, and moved to Redvers. There, he met and married his second wife, Flora Landry in 1965.

Due to failing health in 1990, Joseph wa admitted to the Haven Care Home.

Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife, Flora, four sons and four daughters, Octave (Helen), Al (Nellie), Henry (Florence), Octavie Clemens, Edna (Tony) Clemens, Lillian (Jos) Bax, Rita (Gordon) Kontzie. Predeceased by his first wife Marie-Ange and infant son in Nov. 1939, son Felix (Dick) in 1979, and daughter Cecile in 1984. He is survived by 41 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Randy Gervais, Laird Gervais, Darren Hess, Daryl Bax, John McCabe, Wayne Clemens.

Boire Fuberal Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Mass was at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Redvers, wiith Father Toupin officiating. Burial was at Cantal Cemetary.
