Obituary VICTOR JOSEPH GERVAIS Peacefully with his family by his side, Victor passed away at the Swan Valley Hospital on December 6, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. Victor was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Aurore (nee Boutin) Gervais, his stepmother Lucia (nee Nadeau), his son Nicholas, his half-brother Jean, and half-sister Franceline. He leaves behind his loving wife of 56 years, Evelyn; his three sons Hector (Dianna), David (Pearl), George (Shirley); five daughters Julia (Marcel) Gendron, Lucy (Richard) Lomenda, Judy (Roland) Chicoine, Gloria (Guy) Chicoine, Darlene (Darrell) Dushanek; 28 grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He is survived also by his brothers Leonce, Paul (Margaret), Alexander (Julia) and half-brother Frank.
Vic was born at Alida, SK on August 18, 1918. He worked on the farm with his father until he enlisted in the army in 1941. He served overseas in many countries including England, Scotland, Italy, Belgium, Holland and Germany. During his years in the army, Vic was awarded many medals, dec-orations and mentions in respect for his service. In 1946, he received his dis-charge from the army and returned to civil life.
On December 9, 1946, he married Evelyn Elizabeth Reid of Kisbey, SK. They farmed at Alida, SK until 1971 when they sold the farm and purchased a hotel in Minitonas, MB. They retired in 1983 and built their dream home.
Vic continued to enjoy hunting, trapping, guiding and fishing. He was a very avid gardener and spent many hours in his berry patch.
Vic also operated Kettle Hills Outfitters and had the pleasure of meeting many hunters from the United States and overseas. He looked forward to visits from his numerous children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His home was always open to many friends and hunters who would drop in to share adventurous stories.
Vic had a love for wildlife and had much enjoyment watching for the deer and prairie chickens in his yard.
Prayers were held at St. Columba’s Catholic Church on Monday, December 9 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at St. Columba’s Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 10 at 11;00 a.m. Interment will be at the Minitonas Cemetery.
If friends so desire, they may make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society.
