Edmund was born about 1518. He was the son of Thomas Geste and grandson of John Geste and Margaret Hawkes. Having taken holy orders, he acquired high distinction in the church. He was appointed Arch-deacon of Canterbury in 1559, consecrated Bishop of Rochester in 1560. He was constituted Bishop Almoner of Salisbury in 1571. He was one of the Reformers and distributor of alms on behalf of Queen Elizabeth from 1560-1572. He is also know as the principal compiler of the Liturgy of the Church of England. He passed away about 1577 and was interred in Salisbury Cathedral.
