Biography

Stewart was the son of Louis Gestro and Charlotte Mckelvey.

He worked as a Painter.

Stewart enlisted WWII - rank Private - serial no 32651. He travelled to Trentham training camp joining hundred's of other men who were to be part of the 25th Infantry Battalion. Training at Trentham lasted 15 weeks and in August 1940, the 2nd NZEF embarked for Eygpt.

In August 1942, Stewart was reported missing and later confirmed dead.. ^[1]

At age 22, Stewart Mckenzie Gestro was Killed in Action in the Western Desert. ^[2]

Stewart is buried at the El Alamein War Cemetery in Eygpt. plot - XXV111.D.14
