Biography

Peninah was born before 26 Jun 1726. She is the daughter of Joseph Getchell and Eunice Hatch. She was baptized on 26 Jun 1726,[1] the same day two of her brothers, Joseph and Abel, were also baptized.[2] That being the case, we cannot surmise she was born in 1725 or 1726. Other researchers put her date of birth about 1715. One account found on the FindAGrave profile of her husband, Zebulon Stuart, says that she was baptized in 1716. This may be something worth verifying. (Note: FindAGrave profile of Zeb Stuart doesn't mention wife at all.)

Intent to marry was filed by Zebulon and Peninah in 1735, and the marriage took place 12 Jul 1736.

Info from Peninah's Grave on Find-a-Grave was present, but now entire Memorial has been removed with no explanation provided. Birth: 10 Jun 1718 Death: 17 Jun 1802 Lunenburg, Essex County, Vermont, USA. Zebulon died in 1802 in Vermont. It is possible that Peninah died there as well.

Getchell-715 and Getchell-235 appear to represent the same person because: Ambiguity in DOB has been explained. I see no other impediment to the merge.

Hi -- I found some more stuff that link Peninah and Zebulon, and explain the previous disparity re: birthdates. Baptism with two brothers suggest group baptisms that may have depended upon availability of ministers or some other interfering events - perhaps increased Abenaki activity, for example. I am just theorizing. But two of her brothers were baptized the same day as she - just listed in different groups because they listed the boys in one group, and the girls in another. So significantly earlier birthdates are completely understandable. I was just going to initiate a merge when I saw that the proposal had already been made and was on hold. Let me know if I can help. Thanks.
