Most, if not all, of the following excerpts from early York County, Maine, deeds -- as printed in the Downeast Ancestry newsletter -- probably reference this Samuel Gatchell, IV, especially those referencing his wife Abigail and those naming him as Samuel, Jun. Some of these deed recordings may pertain, however, to his father Samuel, III, and then some of the later ones may rather pertain to his son, Samuel, V, but the dates of the records and ages of the father and son make that possibility appear unlikely.
