Gething, Gettens, Gettings, Gittings, Ghitting, Gittins: Eyon Gethin 1332, Chirk; Robert Gettyns 1500 Fry; Richard Gittin 1603 Bardsley. Welsh Gethin, perhaps from Cethin 'dusky, swarthy'
- I was abel to find 4 Gettings in Il around 1850. I believe they might be brothers and sisters. All were born between the years 1818-1839 and were fron Tn. John D Getting which was father to Henry Gettings. Elizabeth Gettings who married Wm. Powell. Ozias D Gettings who married Rebecca Allen. Nelson Gettings who married Claretta Roberts, Claretta and Elizabeth (John D 's wife) have the same last name perhaps they are either sisters or cousins. Clarretta was born in Livingston Co. Ky.
-In Tennesse accourding to the 1840 census report there were five Gettings Gettings, Jeremiah in Humphrey Co Gainsboro Twp Gettis, Thomas in Bedford Co Geddins, Jaems M in Will Co Giddens, Nancy in Bradford Co Giddens, Frany in Whit Co One of these people is the parents of John D Gettings.
