Biography

David Luther Gettz was born on the 30th of January, 1854 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His parents were Charles Washington Gettz and Maria Field.

He married Hannah Elizabeth Simon and together they had nine children. Margaret Maria, Mary Gertrude, Hannah Bertha, David Luther, Martha Simon, S. Edith, Mabel Blanche, Gettz, and Charles Russel Gettz.^[1]

In the 1880 US Census David is listed as a "Gardner" and living with his wife and children in Pennsylvania.

David Gettz passed away on the 12th of April, 1920 and was buried at the Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, Delaware, Pennsylvania, United States of America.^[2]

"YOUNGSTER" 61, HOSTS PARTY FOR HIS 6 SISTERS IN MANOA.

Six sisters and one brother whose ages total nearly five centuries got together yesterday in Manoa to celebrate the birthdays of two of the sisters.

Honored were Mrs. Mary Bonsall, 77, of Broomall and H. Bertha Gettz, 75, South Ardmore, who will mark their birthdays October 26.

The group had a family dinner at the home of C. Russell Gettz, 61, the "youngster" of the family, at 143 Shelbourne road, Manoa. They then attended evening services at Trinity Lutheran Church, which was founded about 80 years ago by their grandfather, Charles W. Gettz.

Others at the party were Mrs. Margaret Horton, 79, of Llanerch, the oldest; Mrs. Martha Hagy, Brookline, Mrs. S. Edith Bishop, Worchester, Mass. and Mrs. Mable B. Lukens, Manoa.

The Gettz family is one of the oldest in the Manoa area, the grandfather settling there in the early 1800's. The seven are the children of David and Hanna Gettz.
