Caterina (Giambalvo) Libassi migrated from Sicily to New York.
Caterina was born in 1860 in Santa Margherita di Belice, Sicily to Maestro Francesco Giambalvo, a maker of seives, and Francesca Saladino[1]. At age 22 in 1882, she married 23-year-old Salvatore Libassi, a miller [2]. They had 7 children in Sicily, 6 of whom survivied, then in 1897 the family relocated to Brooklyn, NY. They had an 8th child in Brooklyn in 1903.
Caterina died in 1936 at age 75 of heart disease. She is buried in St. John's Cemetery in Middle Village, Queens, NY. [3] Caterina was named for her maternal grandmother, Caterina Abruzzo.
