Biography

Matthew was born about 1705. Daughter Isabel 74 at her death in 1812 Isabel, daughter of Matthew Gibbon, yeoman, of Low Wham [farm near Butterknowle] by his wife Elizabeth; married at Hamsterley 11 jun 1764; died 7 dec 1812 & buried at St Helens Auckland 10 dec 1812. widow at that time aged 74. Will dated 30 may 1796 proved at Durham 30 dec 1813. [1] Ancestry has him b Hamsterley 5 jun 1705 d. 21 sep 1763, Hamsterley, Matthew Gibbon – Yeoman 1705-1763 Matthew was born at Hamsterley in 1705 & baptised there on 5 Jun the son of William Gibbon & Margaret nee Linsey. He was a yeoman farming High Wham. He marries Elizabeth Tinkeller on 13 Nov 1726 at Hamsterley. Sometimes Hamsterley is called Hamsterley by Bishop Auckland. They have the following children – Margaret 1727, Elizabeth 1728, William 1730, John 1731, Thomas 1735, Isabel 1738 &Matthew 1740. He dies at Hamsterley on 21 Sep 1763.
