Biography

Margaret Gibbons was born in about 1839 in County Mayo, Ireland.

Margaret married John Millea in 1856, in a registrar-attended ceremony in Ormskirk district (quite likely a Catholic wedding).

Their daughter Mary was born in 1858 in Ormskirk, Lancashire; her birth was registered in the last quarter of 1858 in Ormskirk district (as Mary Malee).

Their son Austin was born in 1860 in St Helens, Lancashire; his birth was registered in the second quarter of 1860 in Prescot district (as Austin Mahlee).

By April 7th 1861, they were living at 43 Liverpool Street, Eccleston. John was employed as a labourer.

Their daughter Bridget was born in 1865 in St Helens, Lancashire; her birth was registered in the last quarter of 1865 in Prescot district (as Bridget Millee).

By April 2nd 1871, they were living in Parr, St Helens. John was still a labourer.

By April 3rd 1881, they were living in Vernon Street, Parr. John was a furnaceman at a chemical works. Mary was now 23, and a former domestic servant. Austen was now 21, and a colliery fireman. And Bridget was 17, and a pit brow girl.

By April 5th 1891, they were at 39 Earl Street, Parr. John and Austin were both employed as chemical labourers. Mary and Bridget were no longer with their parents.

John died in 1898, aged 59. He was buried on 21 Feb 1898 in St Helens Cemetery.

Margaret died in 1898, aged 60. She was buried on 18 May 1898 in St Helens, Cemetery, in an unpurchased grave.
