David Gibbs was born about 1928, the son of Lottie and John. In 1930, he was 2 years old and lived in Stowe, Vermont, with his father, mother, 4 brothers, and 5 sisters.[7]
When David Gibbs was born about 1928, his father, John, was 36 and his mother, Lattie, was 34. In 1940, he was 12 years old and lived in Jericho, Vermont, with his father, mother, 4 brothers, and 4 sisters.[9]
David was working 40 hours per week at the Bowling Ally as a pin boy with two of his brothers James and Charles[11]

David Ell Gibbs 1927-2014 David Ell Gibbs, 87, passed peacefully in his sleep on September 30, 2014. He was born August 23, 1927 in Stowe, Vt., to John Charles Gibbs and Lottie Pearl Barrett. David served in the U.S. Army from 1946-1949 where he earned a World War II Victory Medal. He married Gertrude Alice Gainley Gibbs on August 14, 1954. David spent the last nine years of his life at Thompson House in Brattleboro, Vt. where he was active as the resident council and was one of the original participants of the "Dreams Happen" campaign. David drove truck for many years and retired from Scott & Daniels in Portland, Conn. One of David's favorite pastimes was playing his fiddle with many different bands and his family. One of his most requested songs was the "Orange Blossom Special". David is survived by his daughter, Beverly Gibbs Randall and her husband, Wayne Randall; three grandchildren, Katherine Prue, David Doyle and Stacy Shepard, all of Brattleboro, Vt., many great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Mitchell of Largo, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, and 13 brothers and sisters; Eva, John, Orson, Bernarr, William, Charlotte, Myrtle, Mary, Flossie, James, Norman, Charles and Lynn. Funeral services will be held at the Community Bible Chapel in Brattleboro, Vt. on Thursday, October 9 at 1 p.m., followed by a pot luck Celebration of Life service at the VFW on Black Mountain Road in Brattleboro, Vt. All are welcome to share thoughts, stories and memories of David.
