John Gibbs was born in Little Eversden, Cambridgeshire, England in about 1817[2], and was christened there on 7 November of that year[1]. He was the son of John Gibbs, a shoemaker, and Margaret(ta) Gibbs, née Howard.
John apparently disappears from English records after 1851, and it seems possible that the family emigrated, like John's sisters Ann and Sarah and possibly his brothers William and George.
