ONTARIO COUNTY POOR CHIEF DEAD Carlton A. Gibbs Succumbed at Thompson Memorial Hospital Friday - Spent Most of His Life in Town of Canadice - Personals

The community was greatly shocked when it learned of the sudden death of Carlton A. Gibbs, having previously received word that he was out of danger. He died at the Thompson Memorial hospital at Canandaigua Friday evening, June 21, after an illness of two weeks. He was born in Hemlock November 3, 1881, and was the third son of Carrie Wheaton Gibbs and Dr. Anson Gibbs. He lived in Hemlock until his marriage to Mary Judd, January 24, 1903. after which he resided on his farm on Bald Hill in Canadice. He served as justice of the peace, town collector and supervisor of the town for nine years, which office he resigned after being elected superintendent of the poor of Ontraio county, which office he was serving his second term at the time of his death.

The services were held at his residence at Hopewell Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. Mr. Sanderson of Pavilion officiated, assisted by the vested choir of Shortsville. Interment was made at Union cemetery in Livonia. The bearers, who were close friends of the deceased, were as follows: Thomas Guinan of Geneva, Clifford Adams of Palmyra, Earl Warner of Phelps. Homer Snyder of Victor, Mr. Miller of Newark and Jay Becker of Canadice. Mr. Gibbs is survived by his widow, one daughter, Rita, and two brothers. Huxley of Canadice and Bradley of Batavia.
