Samuel Giblett was born about 1840 in Somerset, England.[1] He was the son of Henry Giblett and Ann Court.[2]
At the age of 18, he arrived in New South Wales, Australia, aboard the ship "Alfred" on 23 July 1857. He is listed as an Agricultural Labourer, from Somerset, Church of England, and can both read and write.[3]
By 1862, Samuel had made his way to Drysdale, Victoria, and on 11 December 1862 in Geelong, he married Jane Walter.[4][5] They had a large family, and lived on the Bellarine Peninsular for some time, before settling in Trafalgar.[6]
Samuel took an active interest in public life, and was well known and highly respected. At a social evening on 22nd August 1918 in tribute to him, he was presented with an illuminated address which read:
This is a tribute to Mr Samuel Giblett, J.P., of "Spring Hills," Trafalgar, from the citizens of Trafalgar and district, in recognition of his long and valuable services rendered in public capacities, and as a token of the great esteem in which he is held by all recognising the lasting benefits conferred upon the general community by his efforts. In this form we convey to him our earnest appreciation, our assurance of continued friendship, and our sincere good wishes for his future prosperity, good health and happiness. Signed on behalf of the above citizens -
M. McGREGOR, Shire President. Trafalgar, August 22, 1918.[7]
He died on 21 March 1920[2] and is buried in the Trafalgar Cemetery.[8]

Research Notes
There seem to be two birth registrations in Axbridge, Somerset - one in Oct-Dec 1839 for Samuel Eason Giblett, Volume 10, page 290, line 12[9]; the other in Oct-Dec 1840 for Samuel Easton Huggon Giblett, Volume 10, page 280, line 38.[10]
It could be possible that these both refer to the same person, being transcribed differently; or they could be different people. More research required.
