William was born in 1817. He was the son of Josiah Giblin and Elizabeth Taylor.[1] He was educated at Ely before working in a soft goods warehouse and as a commercial traveller in the North of England and Scotland.
William emigrated to New Zealand on the Mariner in 1850. He had success on the Victorian goldfields and returned to Motueka where he purchased the store of his late brother, Daniel. He married Emma Beatson in 1858[2] and after an unsuccessful attempt at sheep farming, returned to store keeping in Motueka. About 1875, he moved to Nelson where he set up a business as a hop merchant and commission agent.[3][4]
He passed away in 1911[5] and is buried in Wakapuaka Cemetery, Nelson.[6]
