William Gibson (1717-1771) is not a son of a William Gibson, Jr. He is not the third in line of other William Gibsons going back to London, England. According to "Gibson Genealogy ca 1730-1910" written by Sarah Davidge Gibson in 1910, William Gibson, and his brothers, Robert Gibson (1700-1754) and George Gibson (1704-1761), were born in Stewartstown, Northern Ireland. Some of this information can also be found in the "Narrative of Hugh Gibson".
William Gibson, Jr. is shown to have died in 1703 in London, England. William Gibson was born in Stewartstown, Northern Ireland in 1717. (Actually, Sarah says before 1717, but that really doesn't matter here.)
Georgene Humphries was the first to make up a William Gibson III over 20 years ago. I had exchanged may emails with Georgene. She had a website, and her ancestral tree can be found at the LDS. In doing so, she moved William Gibson (1717-1771) birth date to about 1705, so she could include her ancestor a John Gibson (1725VA-1776NC), into her tree. This error is constantly copied over and over. -Gary T. Gibson
