William Edward Gibson was born in Bath, England in 1833 to William and Rebecca Gibson. He was baptised at Walcot St Swithin, Somerset, England on 8 Sep 1833. His baptism record states his father was a Carpenter and they lived at Number 4, Northumberland Buildings, Bath.
He immigrated to Australia in about 1857 where he married Catherine (Burns) Gibson in Bendigo about 1856[1][2]. They had between 8 and 10 children, and most were born in Echuca, Victoria.
William Edward Gibson was discovered drowned in the Yarra River, Melbourne on 3 Feb 1897. An inquest into his death was unable to determine how he ended up in the water.
