Biography

Mary was born enslaved in Georgia about 1812. She was the daughter of Lydia Gibson (abt.1792-).

In the 1850 census Mary (age 38) was in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, United States. She was living in the home of her daughter Catherine E. (Gibson) Sanderson (abt.1829-1902) with two more of her five children and her mother.^[1]

In the 1855 census Mary was in Ward 03, New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts. She was living in her daughter's home with all of her children and her mother.^[2]

Mary died (age 47) in 1859 in New Bedford, Bristol, Massachusetts, United States.^[3]

Research Notes

• The death records that have been located for Mary all provide "Unknown" for her parents. This opens up the question of the assumed mother Lydia Gibson (abt.1792-).

• She died at 10 Cedar St., New Bedford, Massachusetts.

• All of Mary's five children signed her probate papers stating that they did not want to execute the will and assigning the job to someone else.
