John Gardiner Gibson of Boston b Boston bap Trinity church Nov 9 1799 with sponsors "John Collins and wife [Mrs Gibson's mother and step father] Mr Gibson & wife [the parents] & sister" [Mrs Sarah Gardner Gibson-Rosendell] d at sea May 12 1838 bur under St Paul's church Boston Oct 5 1838 and since reinterred in Mt Auburn cemetery m Sept 19 1833 Catharine Hamnond (b 1804 d Mar 19 1888) dau of Samuel Hammond a prominent Boston merchant.
Mr Gibson was the namesake of Rev John Gardiner, asst. rector Trinity church 1792 1805 and rector 1805 1830, succeeding Rev Samuel Parker when made bishop in 1805. For several years he was engaged in mercantile pursuits in Cuba but on his marriage returned to Boston and not long before his death while visiting the newly opened Quincy granite quarries was seriously injured by an accident, and his two Cuban guests were killed instantly.
