Based on his tombstone (and census records), Timothy Gibson was born in 1779, in New Hampshire. He was a son of Abel Gibson and Mary Davis.
However, and alternative birth date is 3 Sept 1781, based on a New Hampshire birth record. In that case, the names of the parents are Timothy Gibson and his wife Margaret.[1] No evidence that this profile pertains to a man born in Maine (with a birth-date mis-attributed from the New Hampshire birth record above).
Timothy Gibson married Priscilla Lee, who was born in New York.
1831: Timothy and his family move to Ohio.
Children of Timothy Gibson and Priscilla Lee:
1850 census shows Timothy Gibson 71y as head of household located in Fitchville, Huron, Ohio. Timothy was born in New Hampshire; he is a farmer. Wife Priscilla 61y (born in New York; unable to read or write), daughter Lucy 24y. Also living on the farm is Elver Laughlin 26y, a medical student.
1850 census also shows household of son Timothy Gibson 39y, living nearby.
Burial: Evergreen Cemetery, South Amherst, Lorain County, Ohio, USA. His tombstone inscription reads: 81y 7mo 22d.
I have nothing definitive upon Timothy Gibson's birth or marriage to Priscilla Lee. I have what I think is him in 1810, 1820, 1840 and 1850 census records, his and Priscilla Lee's tombstone. He died in 1860 (not 1867, which was his son, Dr. Timothy's death date). I am working back through Silas' brother, Asher Gibson. I am also working upon all of Timothy Gibson's children. I would be very interested if you get any information upon this couple and am willing to share what I have.[2]
Secondary sources disagree for the origins of this person, who was definitely born in New Hampshire--either in 1779 or 1781. Most of the trees that say 1781 connect to Gibsons in Maine. Abel Gibson died in Cortland county, New York, which is adjacent to Westchester County .
