Biography

Susie (Gibson) McTarnaghan was born in Ireland.

The daughter of James Gibson and Mary (Anderson) Gibson, Susie was born in Broughshane in 1859. Her family emigrated to the United States, settling in Sparta, New York.[1][2][3] She married John McTarghanan (1855-1936), a first cousin, a son of her father's sister, also born in Broughshane. He was the son of William McTarghanan and Mary "Mollie" Gibson; Susie and John married in Groveland, New York on December 17, 1878. Their children included:

  1. William James McTarghanan (1880-1943)
  2. John Arthur McTarghanan (1882-1959)
  3. Edward Alexander McTarghanan (1884-1949)
  4. Margaret Susanna McTarghanan (1887-1943)
  5. Robert Gibson McTarghanan (1889-1938)
  6. Mary Edith McTarghanan (1892-1964)
  7. Frederick Anderson McTarghanan (1894-1963)
  8. Walter Joseph McTarghanan (1896-1934)
  9. Susanna Evaline McTarghanan (1899-1969)

Susie died from childbirth complications with her last child, at the age of 39. She had had nine children in 18 years. She is buried at South Sparta Cemetery, Livingston County, New York.[4]

Her husband later married her younger sister, Maggie.
