Nana travelled alone to New Zealand at the age of 70 to see the family and her 1st Great Grandchild, Rachel Elizabeth Ainsworth. She didn't like the summer heat and plodged in the sea at Cockle Bay with her dress tucked into her knee length bloomers. We picked cockles and cooked them for her, which she loved. Mum cooked big steaks for dinner and nana thought it was a roast beef to carve up into slices. She almost fainted when it landed on het plate! Great memories.

Nanna and Grandad didn't have much money and struggled to make ends meet. When Dave and I visited the UK, we stayed with her and she told us some funny things. She'd laugh until the tears ran down her cheeks. One of the funniest things she told us was about Grandad complaining that all of his work mates had ham in their "bait" and he was sick of cheese sandwiches! Nanna decided to cut a picture of a pig out of a book and slapped it between two slices of bread. Apparently, Grandad never complained again. Wonderful memories.
