Biography

Robert Gibson was the son of Miles Gibson and was likely born in Maryland around 1670. He was living in Baltimore County in Spesutia Hundred by 1695.[1]

Marriage

Robert was married twice, but there is no evidence he had any children. He was married first by 1693 to Martha, was the widow of William O'Derry.[1]

His second marriage was recorded in St. George's Parish

"Mr. Robert Gibson of Spesutia Hundred in St. George's Parish
Gent. was joyned in the Holy Estate of Matrimony unto Mrs.
Mary Goldsmith Spinster of the same Parish the fifteenth day of December in the year of our Lord 1702."[2]

Mary married George Wells after Robert's death. [1]

Death

Robert Gibson signed his will on 4 JUN 1704. An abstract follows:

  • to my sister Sarah Beall all my land lying in Rumley Creek for her and her heirs forever.
  • to Joseph Coomopton 100 acres of land out of a tract called Gibson Park.
  • the rest of my estate, both real and personal to my wife Mary Gibson and her heirs and I make my wife my sole executor.
  • I request my father-in-law my John Hall to be assisting my wife in the managing administration of my will.

Signed and sealed with a cursive signature. Probated on 12 JUN 1704.[3]

Research Notes

Robert Gibson this Robt' has a Parish Record, marriage in 1702, we just need to make sure this is the same man that is listed on the Ship Batchelor" November 1674 from Bristoll, England. Another [citation needed]. added him to image list attached.
If this is the right man, let us say he was 16 years old when the Batchelor made the voyage, in 1674, he then married in 1702, at the age of 44, that would give him a year of birth of 1658.
That would be ok...The current birth year is an estimate giving the bride/groom the ages of 22/20 for the bride. Looks good. now to prove it.
