It is believed by many Atchison descendants that Susannah is buried in the Atchison Family Cemetery, originally in Bibb County and, after county-line revisions, now in Chilton County, Alabama. There is no marker for her there. No other burial place has yet been found.
While the cause of her early departure from her husband and children is not known, it is assumed that she died, possibly in childbirth or as a result of complications or illness soon after the birth of her youngest child, Jackson Franklin "Jack" Atchison.
There is no real evidence for Susannah's age. Some Atchison genealogies indicate a birth range from 1794 to 1810. If she was older than Yancy, could she have been married before?

In trying to determine the parents and birthplace of Susannah Gibson, the following online resources have been searched by L Deason: Ancestry records; Ancestry family trees; Family Search records; Family Search genealogies; Rootsweb World Connect family trees. While no hint of Susannah's origins has yet been found as of Sept. 2015, some of the trees, especially on Rootsweb, contain extensive lists of descendants of Susannah Gibson and Yancy Atchison, which may be of interest.
In the 1830 census for Bibb County (where Yancy and Susannah married in Feb.), NO Gibson families are listed and Yancy is not listed. While a James Achison is listed, it appears to be Yancy's brother James Henderson Achison (1 male age 20-29) and 1 female age 15-19. Date the census was enumerated is not shown. A James Atkison family (on the same census page with Lazarus Pitts) is likely Yancy's father's household with 2 males, 1 age 10-14 and 1 age 60-69; 1 female age 50-59, and 5 slaves.
