Biography
Amalie Gieger was born in the Province of East Prussia, Prussia
Amalie "Emily" was born in 1876.
Emily was employed as a lady's maid by Eleanor Blanche (Elkins) Rice. In 1912, Emily accompanied her employer and her family on the fateful maiden voyage of the Titanic. Both Emily and Eleanor were put aboard Lifeboat 4 with some other women from the First Class and were rescued; however, Eleanor's husband, George Dunton Widener (1861-1912), and 27 year old son, Harry Widener, along with her husband's valet, Edwin Herbert Keeping all were drowned in the disaster.
Emily remained in the employ of Eleanor until at least 1923, and perhaps even until the time of her death. She passed away in 1933.
