Biography

This profile is part of the Giem Name Study.

Frederick Charles Giem was born on 23 Jan 1830[1][2][3] in Germany.[2]

Frederick Charles Giem emigrated to the United States with his parents and siblings aboard the Clementine, landing in New York City in 1837. His father, Christian Giem, was a mason. They were bound for Albany.[4]

In 1850, Frederick C. "Gim" lived in Bucks Township, Tuscarawas, Ohio, with his father John, John's wife, and many brothers and sisters. John was a farmer and Frederick was a laborer.[5]

Based on the age of Albert, his oldest known child, Charles and Louisa were married about 1858. They had at least the following children:

In 1880, Charles Giem lived in Clatonia Precinct, Gage, Nebraska, with his wife Luise, 9 children and two others. Charles was a farmer, and Albert and John worked on the farm.[6]

In 1900, Charles Giem, a widower, lived in Castle Rock, Douglas, Colorado, with two daughters. Charles was a farmer.[2]

Charles Giem, 75 years old, made his Will in Denver, Colorado, on 8 March 1905. In it, he mentioned the following:[3]

  • youngest daughter, Martha and Carrie
  • 10 surviving children: Albert E. Giem, John A. Giem, Mary P. Meyers, Annie L. Jacobs, Lydia Meyers, George F. Giem, Edward F. Giem, William C. Giem, Martha M. Giem, and Carrie A. Giem.

He died on 21 Jul 1905[7] in Denver, Denver County, Colorado,[1] His death notice said that he was the father of Mrs. E.P. Myers and Mrs. Anna Jacobs. His funeral took place from the Cameron ME Church, at the corner of Iowa and South Washington in Denver.[7] He is buried at the Fairmount Cemetery, Denver, Denver, Colorado.[1]

NOTE: The original information in the profile said he died in "Sedila," Colorado. There is no place in Colorado called Sedila. This probably refers to Sedalia, Douglas, Colorado.
