Henry was born 3 February 1884 in Schönthal, Taganrog-Yeisk parish, Don Cossacks, Russian Empire. He was the son of Johann Jacob Gies and Dorothea Elisabeth Döll. He was Christened by C. Hock in Schönthal on 12 February 1884. [1]
Henry, his wife Alice, his parents Jacob & Dorothea Gies and siblings departed Liverpool England on 17 December 1902, arriving in St John, New Brunswick, Canada on 29 December 1902 on the ship SS Lake Ontario.[2][3][4]
He passed away on 19 November 1975 in Algona, Iowa. [5][6]
