Historical Note (From The PA German Soc. "Three Images of German in America") Disease among the incoming "Palatine" emigrants from Europe did not increase their popularity here during the 18th Century. The year 1741, according to the historian of Philadelphia, was "an unhappy year" for the city. In addition to discontent, wars, and rumors of wars, there was an outbreak of yellow fever. Despite the fact that this probably came from the West Indies, the disease was called the Palatine fever, and 206 of these emigrants fell victim to it. Small pox was also out of control during this time.

First settled in Lancaster Co., PA, and then in York Twp., York Co. Upon arriving in Lancaster County in 1742, Conradt and Anna Barbra Giese were recorded at the New Holland Reformed Church as having attended with Catharine Barbara and Maria Elizabeth.

First Reformed Church, Lancaster, Lancaster Co. records 1737-1806, Part 5, Roll 133-134 by Rev. John William Hendel lists Conradt b. 27 Mar 1718, Emig. 1741, Anna Barbara-Catherine 3 June 1739, Maria Elizabeth 16 May 1740

There seems to be some uncertainty as to when Conradt settled in York Co. Possibly as late as 1754. First mentioned in Blymire's (Reformed) Church record in 1752?? Occupation: Yoeman (Farmer).

War in planning with Jefferson, Madison and Hamilton s plan in creating a Fed. Budget. They particularly objected to paying off debt, because speculators had bought debt certificated cheaply from veterans of the Revolutionary War. Thousands of militiamen returned from tours of active duty unpaid, bearing only a slip signed by a commanding officer. General financial confusion and the collapse of wartime currencies made prompt payment impossible, but eventually, under an act of April 1784 PA compensated such payment for their active service and settled accounts with other pubic creditors by passing to them interest bearing certificated of funded or Militia Debt.
