Biography

Lydia Gifford was born about 1804 in New Jersey.^[1] Lydia Gifford and Jonathan Hildreth were married in New Jersey or New York. They lived in New York until approximately 1845, when they moved to Michigan, as their daughter Caroline was born in Michigan in 1849.

Lydia and Jonathan had at least the following children:

• Milton L., b. ca. 1823 New York, d. June 10, 1891 Essex, Clinton, Michigan^[2]
• John N., b. ca. 1826 New York, d. February 5, 1885 Riley, Clinton, Michigan^[3]
• Benjamin W., b. 1831 New York, d. March 11, 1885^[4]
• Charles W., b. 1841 New York
• Caroline, b. ca. 1848 Michigan

Lydia Hildreth died on April 13, 1881. Her father's last name was Gifford.^[5] She is buried at the Boughton Cemetery, Riley Twp., Clinton, Michigan.^[1] You can see a picture of her gravestone at Find A Grave. It gives her age as 77yrs., 4mos., 3dys.

In 1860, Jonathan Hildrith, 60, a farmer b. New Jersey, lived with his wife Lydia, 50 b. New Jersey, and four Hildrith children: John N., 30 b. New York; Benjamine W., 29 b. New York; Charles W., 19 b. New York; and Caroline, 12 b. Michigan. The boys were all farm laborers.^[6]
