Biography

Jane was baptised on 8th July 1827 at Bristol. Her parents were Isaac and Jane Gifford. ^[1] Her family moved to Bristol and her father became a Waterman.

In the 1841 census Jane (age 15) was in St John and St Mary, Glamorgan, Wales.^[2]

In 1848 Jane married Thomas Jenkins in Bristol. ^[3]

In 1851 Thomas and Jane lived in Cardiff and Thomas was a Grocer. Jane's sister Elizabeth, an annuitant also lived there as did a house servant. ^[4] In 1861 Thomas was a Licenced Victualler and the couple had 4 children, Thomas, Margaret, Jane and Henry (Harry). ^[5] In 1871 they had another 2 children William and Charles. ^[6]

Thomas died in 1876 and in 1881 Jane was living in Cardiff as an Annuitant with children William, Minnie and Charles aged 14 and a Clerk and nephew William Gifford, a shipwright aged 20. ^[7]

Jane died in 1890, having still lived at 4 North Edward Street, as in 1881. Her will was proved by Thomas Jenkins of the 'Marchioness of Bute" Hotel in Frederick Street Cardiff and Charles, Jane's sons. ^[8]
