Hello, David

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Pre-1700_Profiles. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines laid out on that page.

Kind regards,

Stephen Davies – WikiTree Greeter

Hi David I agree that your Joseph and mine are the same person. We will both be on the profile as owners. I have to put a merger request into the system first. Taylor
Hi David,

This is a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far? Have the tips in the New Member How-Tos been helpful?

We have a research tool that makes finding reliable sources easier. I use it all the time and it helps me remember different places to check. To give it a try, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research, scroll down near the bottom of that list, and select Research with RootsSearch (use your WikiTree email & password). There are over 20 websites to access from there. You can read more about the tool in the RootsSearch FAQ.

Please do let me know if you have any questions about how WikiTree works, no matter how small. My rule of thumb when I started was to search for an answer for five minutes, then reach out to my Greeters, and then resume searching. I might have found the answer before they got back with me but they sometimes offered a different way of doing the same thing which was easier.

You can reach me by using the reply link for this comment or send a private message from my profile by clicking my name. See you in the branches,

Debi ~ WikiGreeter

P.S. Did you discover that the tags on your profile are clickable links to a page of other people who have that tag? They also control the information which is included in the activity reports which you receive from WikiTree. You can add more, up to 20 total, or delete some if you are receiving irrelevant information.

Hi.

Thanks for reaching out. I have not discovered any of the things you mention. Guess I have not tried hard enough. All I can see is what I put on myself. My reason for joining is to see what others know about my ancestors and perhaps connect with distant relatives. I will try the tools you suggest. with appreciation. Dave

When you click the Stetson tag on your profile to look at the other members interested in the name, you'll see a box of the most active Stetson researchers. I did notice that the top Stetson member for April is working on a family from Maine. He might be a great researcher with whom to collaborate.

Thank you for volunteering, David!

You are now a member of the WikiTree community. I hope your experience among us is as enjoyable and fruitful as mine has been.

Start with the New Member How-To pages — they are really useful as you add profiles and learn your way around.

When you are ready take a look at projects, there may be a One Name Study for your surnames, or a project covering your research location(s).

Take your time, and let me know if you need any help using the site.

Hilary ~ WikiTree Greeter

P.S. If you get error messages when you click links from WikiTree emails, try the links from your profile page.
