Elizabeth Gifford known as Bessie and Betsy, is the daughter of James Gifford and Belinda Lambert.
In 1885 she married Howard Dodson and had one child, a son Norman.[1]
She became the proprietress of Dodson & Co, a well known brewing establishment in Nelson run by her husband's family.
In 1892, Bessie received a certificate from the Royal Humane Society of Australasia for the rescue of someone drowning.
Bessie became a widow in 1893 after Howard died in a boating accident.
Bessie Dodson never remarried and died in 1912, age 50 and is buried at Omaka cemetery, Blenheim, Marlborough
Marriage Notice[2] Dodson — Gifford. — At Spring Creek on 2nd February by the Rev Arthur Hermon, Howard Henry, eldest son of Henry Dodson, Blenheim, to Bessie, fourth daughter of James Gifford, Spring Creek.
