Benjamin Giger (may be related to Susannah Giger (John Cooper's 2nd wife) was born 25 Jul 1803 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He visited Sangamon County in 1828 and returned to Tennessee and moved with his widowed mother and his brother-in-law, John North. They arrived in Cooper Township 12 Apr 1829. Benjamin Giger married Susannah Todd in Sangamon County. She was born 20 Dec 1808. Mr. Giger was an inventor of many useful tools. He studied days on end and often would stop work and go to be to contemplate his design and when the design was matured would arise to write without any interruption until it was on paper. He invented plows and other implements and traveled to Washington, DC to obtain patents but took ill on a steamer going up the Ohio River and died at Brownsville, Pennsylvania, 23 Jun 1850. His widow, Susannah Todd died 28 Nov 1858 in Sangamon County. NOTE: nothing here is reported regarding children. I wonder what happen to his pending patents.[1]
