"William the son of William Gilbert and Elizabeth his wife was christened" at Uttoxeter, St Mary, on 21 Sep 1643.[1]
William is mentioned in the 1680 will[2] of his father and also in the 1699/1700 will[3] of his uncle Edward, with a daughter Elizabeth.
A bond for the marriage of William Gilbert of Uttoxeter, age 40, and Anna Litttleton of Hanbury, age 30, was posted on 18 Jul 1683. Place of marriage either Marchington or Stow.[4]
Anna Littleton was William's second wife, as the register entry for his daughter Dorothy names his wife Elizabeth.

20 Oct 1724:[10] Renunciation by William Thompson of Grindley, Staffs, of being an executor to the will of William Gilbert of Uttoxeter. That recited that his brother Ralph Gilbert had died intestate possessed of property in Uttoxeter, Tutbury, Tutbury Woodhouses, Hanbury, Oversole, Nobott, Leigh, Checkley and Beamhurst, and it was not clear what should come to him. Under William's will, messuage in Beamhurst or Checkley occupied by William Slator, called Moore's Old Wood or the Old Wood, worth £40 a year, go to his grand-daughter Elizabeth's husband John Bradgate for life, then to her. Other real estate to Elizabeth, or to raise portions for her younger children. Will proved by John Bradgate. Witnesses, including Mary Ball of the `Star' at Uttoxeter.
