Biography

Dorothy Gilbert was born probably in Hartford, Connecticut, a daughter of Capt. John Gilbert and Amy Lord. Her birth date is uncertain, and her baptism was not recorded with those of the other children of this birth family.

She was married to Moses Palmer around 1672, probably in Hartford but possibly in Stonington, Connecticut.[1] They had 5 children:

  1. Moses Palmer, b. 29 Oct 1673; married 1 Apr 1703 Abigail Allen; d. 5 Aug 1744
  2. Dorothy Palmer, b. 11 Aug 1675; married 25 Jan 1697/98 William Wilcox; d. 1754
  3. John Palmer, b. 1 Sep or 2 Dec 1677
  4. Amie Palmer, bapt. 25 Apr 1680; married 4 Oct 1704 Ebenezer Allen; d. 24 Sep 1705
  5. Rebecca Palmer, bapt. 30 Apr 1682

As the wife of Moses, Dorothy (Gilbert) Palmer was admitted to the First Congregational Church in Stonington on December 2, 1677, [2] at the time their third child was baptized.

Dorothy (Gilbert) Palmer died on April 10, 1717, in Stonington, New London, Connecticut. The location of her grave is not known: Find A Grave: Memorial #63160435
