Biography

This profile is part of the Gilbert Name Study.

Birth

Caleb Gilbert was the son of Elijah Gilbert and Hannah (Stetson) (Randall) Gilbert. His birth is recorded in May 1780 at Hanover, Massachusetts,[1] and on 9 May 1780 at Turner, Maine (then in Massachusetts).[2] The date that his parents arrived in Turner is unknown. The most likely scenario is that he was born at Hanover and that his birth was re-recorded at Turner after his parents moved there.

  2. Caleb Gilbert married Achsah Burgess.[4] A FindAGrave memorial, citing no sources, says that they married on 22 Oct 1815.[5] Their first known child was born at Turner, Maine (then in Massachusetts), on 15 Aug 1816.[6]
  3. On 15 Oct 1836, Caleb Gilbert of Turner, Maine, and Eliza Blasdell of Phippsburg, Maine, published at Phippsburg their intention to marry, and they married there on 5 Nov 1836.[7]

A gravestone at the Turner Centerville Cemetery in Turner, Maine, says that Caleb Gilbert died on 31 Aug 1849 at the age of 69 years, 3 months.[8]
