Jonathan was born before 1665, probably in England. He and his family first appear in the records for Lurgan in 1695, but it is possible they arrived a few years before that.
Lurgan records show that he and Ann had the following children:
His will was probated in 1713. No surviving copy is known.
1695 Lease - Lurgan Town
20 foot in the street adjoineing to the markett house stairs leased to Jonathan Gilbert for the lives of his wife Ann, and Stevens and Jonathan junior his sons, with covenants to renew for a years rent at 20s. per annum at Michaelmas and Lady day, rest as usuall (g[?]) to join gratis to his gable, he to build equal to the market house and cover stairs, dated January 25th [16]95. 20s. 0d. 3 foot more front to bee added at 3s. more per annum. £00.03s.00d.[1]
1696 Lurgan Quaker Meeting
Jonathan Gilbert donated £- 6-8d as a subscription to the building of a new Quaker meeting house in Lurgan.

A Jonathan Gilbert, was a linen draper in Lurgan, County Armagh, and was a witness to a Release & Lease Deed on 11 Jul 1715.[2]
