Research Notes

  • Not the same person as Veronica J. Gilbert born 20 Nov 1981 in Newport, Maine.
  • Note on my married surname: "Newsom" was not my husband's original surname; it was "Nussbaum" of Germanic Jewish origin. It was changed by his great-grandfather, 2nd Lt. Hamilton Smith Nussbaum (Nussbaum-418), between 1915-1918. The first documented change to "Newsom" surname occurred when Hamilton S. Nussbaum enrolled with the US Army in 1918, to fight Germany in WWII. The reasons behind the name change aren't fully confirmed; it may have been to distance himself from his Germanic origin due to Nazism. The surname was notably not changed by his parents or siblings when they immigrated to the United States. The direct descendants of Hamilton S. Newsom aka Nussbaum are the only line using the surname Newsom instead of Nussbaum.

Hello! Compared our GEDmatch kits (found yours on the profile for Rhodolphus Thacher) and found that we are most likely to be 8th cousins.

Hi! It appears we are 7th cousins, twice removed via Skiffe-17. Was not aware of that line before, very cool!

Thank you again my SHINING STAR Vee. You are tireless and unrelenting in our Skeels Project. I had no idea what a wonderful gift I was to receive when you joined us here. Thank you for your endless hours and all the effort in finding those of our past ancestors. You truly are a shining star and a gift. Our project is about to officially end with the new year. Two years is long enough, and I'd say we have successfully completed our task of documenting all in our Skeels Line. Well done YOU!

Hi Veronica,

Thanks for having a big heart and adopting the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up GEDCOM biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

PS If you have any GEDCOM cleanup to do, there is a new tool that can help. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

Hope to find a Skeels male who would contact someone about a new DNA test that in time could link John Skell to his father John Skeelle and Mother Agnis Bruce/Brise of England, as questioned by past Genealogists.

Hi Veronica.... always good to meet a new relative. Hope you enjoy WikiTree, it's a great site.

Hello Veronika!

RE "Direct descendant of Bela III King of Hungary Arpadhazi-4 , my 27th great-grandfather" - you may or may not know about the recent DNA research results of King Bela III. achieved by the Minister Kasler led team of the Hungarian Root Research Institute working together with many international geneologists and archeogenetics. These results are important concerning the male line of the Turul dynasty - aka the House of Arpad.

RE DNA testing from shows that I have inherited 0.6% DNA from the Iberian peninsula area, evidence of this small amount of ancestry during the 12th-13th centuries. - With regard to this DNA testing I suppose the mediatized Croy Solre as well as the Crouy Chanel families may have significant Arpadian ancestry results in their males - in case they risk the tests.

As a historian I wish I had - what I do not have with my German ancestry living in Hungary - relational reasons for affecting them to do so. :)

Antal Leisen

PS: If you have any sources (documents) which would help detail this period history - please let me know.

Thanks for the comment! I read somewhere that the Crouy-Chanel family is thought to be descended from Bela III’s brother, Geza. I do have a distant relationship there- I’m Geza’s 27th great-grand niece. I can’t prove a definitive Crouy-Chanel link, though! Maybe someday.

Veronika, WOW, this awesome what you have found!!! Love it. I was born in Hungary but now way found records way back to Arpad but you know we all are related but can't prove it.
