Biography

Conrad's year and place of birth are not known, so he is assumed to have been at least 18 when he appears in a 1783 North Carolina Military record. He may well be from a well documented German (called otherwise back then) Gilbert family, and he reportedly appears in the 1800 Census for Lincoln Co, NC pg 814^{[citation needed]} aged 26-44 so could have been born as early as 1756.
